작가는 볼 수 있는 것과 볼 수 없는 것에, 그리고 인간의 눈이 미처 인식하지 못하는 것에 관심이 있다. 인간의 시각에서 새로운 형태를 발견한다. 그리고 진부함에서 새로운 형태를 발견한다. 양감, 음영, 질감, 풍경의 흔적과 인간의 창조물은 그의 유희의 대상이다. 

카메라는 풍경의 흔적과 인간의 창조물을 담아내는 도구이다. 카메라는 사물과 그림자 사이의 대화를 포착하여 개인적 환상과 물리적 속도를 표현하는 도구이다. 그의 사진은 과거, 현재, 미래를 한 데 뒤섞어 무한한 작품을 탄생시키며 아무런 시간적 순서 없이 자유로운 해석에 내어 맡겨진다. 각각의 사진은 보는 이의 상상력을 확장시키며 개인적인 감상의 대상이 된다. 건축과 도시의 풍경은 작품의 주된 소재이다. 그러나 작가의 관심을 끄는 것은 건축물 자체가 아닌 강렬한 각도와 그림자, 그리고 이 흑백의 구성을 지배하는 빛의 사용이다. 이 모든 것들은 고도로 계획된 구성이며 여기에는 보는 이의 개인적 감상을 제외하고는 그 어떤 우연도 배제되어 있다. 도시 건축물에 영원히 내재된 특징들, 즉 단순함, 명료한 선, 그리고 고요함을 사진에 담아내고자 한다. 스냅 샷은 실제적이고 구체적인 표상과는 동떨어진 세계를 구축한다. 그는 실재하는 건축물에 구애받지 않고 나만의 고유한 해석을 담아내고자 애쓴다. 이러한 작업을 통해 시간을 초월한 일련의 시각적 건축물들이 탄생한다.

Jose Conceptes

I am interested in what can be seen, what can’t be seen, and in those things that pass unnoticed by the human eye. I discover new forms in the human eye. I discover new forms in the banal. I play with volume, shade and textures, from imprints of the landscape or creations of man. My camera is a tool to of the landscape or creations of man. My camera is a tool to capture the dialogue that exists between objects and shadows, expressing an individual vision and physical paces. My photos fuse the past with the present and future offering indefinite pieces of work, without chrologic order, and which lend themselves to different interpetations. Each photo allows the viewer to extend imagination and form a personal reflection of the work. Architecture and urban landscapes dominate my work. But it’s not the structures themselves that take preference, rather the powerful angles and shadows, and use of light that prevail in these black and white formats. These are highly studied compositions, where noting is random, except for the subjective opinion of the viewer. I strive that my photos possess simplicity, clean lines and stillness, characteristics eternally inherent in urban structures. My snapshots are a world apart from their real-life concrete representations. Independent of the actual structure, I try to capture my own interpretation, which in turn helps me form a collection of visual architectural pieces that are timeless.
